While multiple people emailed me to say the project was a non-starter, I'm glad to say that the MySpace IM client I hyped up in March has soft-launched today. You can download it here. It will be officially called "MySpaceIM" and the slogan is "IM for friends". The client is only available for Windows PCs at the moment. Fittingly, Tom is your first friend on the service.
I think it's ironic that while AOL is launching a MySpace rival built on its AIM audience (screenshots appeared today), MySpace is using its social network to spin off an AIM rival.

Update: I just tested the MySpaceIM client - it's slick, intuitive and well-designed. That's surprising, considering it's a MySpace product.
