BlueOrganizer, currently in private beta, is a Firefox extension that puts Amazon into your browser. The first element is a product-specific bookmarking tool: when you're on a book page on Amazon, for instance, the "bluemark" icon on your toolbar lights up. If you hit it, a dialog box appears and BlueOrganizer grabs an image, the author and the title - it also suggests some tags. You can then specify whether you own the book or want to buy it, and add the item to your collection. But BlueOrganizer isn't just for cataloging books from Amazon: it also lets you bookmark movies, music and electronics. What's more, you can grab items from eBay, Buy.com, Walmart.com, BN.com, Froogle and other popular services.

Once you've bookmarked some products, you can explore your collection by tags and media type, or just enter a search term. You can also use your collection as a starting point for other tasks - renting movies on Netflix, finding related videos on YouTube or searching for your favorite books on Technorati. The service makes money by inserting affiliate codes into your links.

BlueOrganizer is a neat tool, but it will always have niche appeal. Not only is it Firefox specific, but the idea of cataloging your media seems fairly geeky. What's more, I suspect these services will be more successful if they have a public-facing website: think Kaboodle or Wists.
