ChipIn, the social fundraising site, just announced the release of widgets for blogs and social networks. As mentioned previously on Mashable, ChipIn helps communities to contribute money to good causes, gift purchases or events. The new widget allows you to track your progress on your blog or website and invite others to contribute to your cause - it's a feature that rival Fundable has had for some time. You can also customize the colors and size of the widget, or choose from some preset color schemes. And of course they're encouraging you to use the generated code on hi5, Frappr, Friendster and all the usual suspects.

This comes right after the news that MySpace is crippling some of these widgets by preventing them from linking back to the source (although there are workarounds). But I really don't think it matters, since MySpace isn't the key demographic here. Instead, I imagine the widgets appearing on personal blogs and even wikis within organizations.

What's surprising about these social fundrasing sites is that we've heard virtually nothing from either service since launch - perhaps that's because commercial applications get all the coverage.
