MySpace slipped over the 100 million users mark earlier today (August 9th). Those who watched the dial claim that the 100,000,000 level was reached at 07:41 EST - as you can see, I missed it by a few thousand. Of course, that figure has been bumped up by millions of fake and inactive accounts, but it's still a remarkable achievement.
In what's probably an apt tribute to MySpace, the 100 millionth account doesn't work - instead, it returns the familiar message "Invalid Friend ID. This user has either cancelled their membership, or their account has been deleted." This is the same message that many users saw when their accounts were "deleted" at the end of July. This was supposedly the result of the previous power outage (see MySpace Down), but if my blog comments are anything to go by, some users still can't access their MySpace accounts.
