Vancover-based communications startup EQO will launch a new MySpace message board widget tomorrow. Users can send text and images to the widget (no video support yet), which can also display your presence, location and mood. The new tool is called "EQO Me", and it works in conjunction with the EQO Mobile Browser Edition, which also launches tomorrow. Unlike competing products, which post via MMS, EQO is designed for posting from the browser - the company points out that 70 percent of US phone users have web-browsing capabilities on their phone. Additionally, your friends can send text messages to your cellphone via your MySpace page. It goes without saying that EQO Me will work wherever Flash is supported - Friendster, hi5, Tagworld, Multiply, Xanga, Piczo and hundreds more.
Meanwhile, the larger market for MySpace codes continues to boom - Odeo, Singshot, SpyMedia and MeeboMe are just some of the services to have launched Flash embeds for MySpace recently.
I think MySpace and mobile are a potent combination - let's see if EQO can get any uptake with the MySpace crowd. They're helping things along with a bit of MySpace marketing - as well as having profile pages on MySpace, Friendster and Tagworld, they're launching an intiative called Bandcast2006, a battle-of-the-bands event that'll be simulcast across the major social networks.
