UK-based WeeWorld, the makers of the WeeMee avatars, will launch in the US today and announce a partnership with AIM. What's more, they're reporting that 10 million WeeMees have been created in more than 39 countries, allowing users to post a personalized avatar on blogs, social networks, e-mail signatures, instant messengers and cellphones. But the new WeeMees for AIM go beyond static buddy icons: they're animated, and respond to emoticons and other triggers (however, those who are using the old version of AIM or the AOL client will still see a static image). The avatars are also being promoted on AIM's main site.

WeeWorld has been one of the more successful identity companies, going up against Meez and - to some extent - virtual worlds like Habbo Hotel and Cyworld, which also derive revenue from putting your avatar on your phone and elsewhere. WeeMees are really taking off with the tween demographic, and a partnership with one of the world's most popular IM clients could give the service a real boost.
