Facebook will have to pay a "break up" fee to Microsoft if it sells to another company, according to an article that will appear in Tuesday's NYPost. The clause was part of the Microsoft-Facebook ad deal struck back in August, following a similar deal between Google and MySpace. There are now rumors of a Facebook acquisition by Yahoo, but if it goes ahead Microsoft will be owed millions. The amount isn't known, but the Post speculates that it may be "less than $10 million" - virtually nothing compared to the rumored $1 billion price tag, but still a misstep. The Facebook/Microsoft deal was made hurriedly after Google and MySpace hooked up: some say the deal was finalized within a week.
