I don't have much information on this, but a tipster says that Zedge.net, a social network that allows you to create ringtones and wallpapers, has been acquired by the telecoms company IDT. An announcement is expected some time in the next week.

The site was launched a few years ago as "Zedge.no" - having tested it today, I think it's a strong effort to build a social network around mobile content. It's like YouTube for wallpapers, screensavers, ringtones, themes, picture messages and mobile videos, allowing users to create and rate mobile media. It's surprising, then, that a telco decided to acquire it - tech and media companies must surely realize that mobile content is the next big market. Related services include Mobango and Treemo.
