The Social Networking Awards are sponsored by Photobucket. If you have a social site, you can use Photobucket's JWidget tool - this is a free plugin that provides image and video hosting for your users.

Time to kick things off! We're starting with the mainstream/large scale social networks, since the list of nominees is short and there isn't any need to narrow it down. To vote for your favorite social network, put the word "VOTE" followed by your choice in the comments. If you want, you can also add a reason for your choice. What's more, we're providing buttons (at the bottom of this post) that can be used on your company blog or website to encourage your users to vote.

Keep Nominating!

The nominations for the other categories will stay open until we announce the voting for those sites. If you haven't nominated yet, visit the nominations post and leave your nominations in the comments!

The Rules

What you CAN do: You can ask your site's users to vote for you. And if you're a user of a particular site and you want that site to win, you can also share the buttons and links with your friends. If you're a devoted MySpace user, for instance, you could send out a bulletin.

What you CAN'T do: Any individual can't vote more than once. It's smart to enter a genuine email address, since we're logging IP addresses and locations - if we see any suspicious voting, we'll send a friendly email to check that the vote is bona fide. If any company is found to be cheating, they'll be excluded from the competition.

What Your Vote Means: You're voting for the People's Choice winner. As mentioned previously, we will have a second list of winners called the Judge's Choice, made by an expert panel. It's possible that the People's Choice will be won by the sites who get their users to vote for them, but that's ok - an active, passionate user base is a good sign.

A Note on Nominations

This is the list of nominees for the large scale/mainstream category. A number of sites (Zwinky and Flixster, for instance), could have been eligible based on their size, but we've opted to put them into categories that are more suited to their subject matter. Although we couldn't confirm the number of users, the blogging platform Vox has also been included, since they received a large number of nominations and can't qualify for any of the other categories.

The Nominees

We're not going specify any criteria that may sway your vote, since everyone will have slightly different reasons for preferring one network over another. The question is simply: which site do you like best?
