A company called Red Kawa is announcing the release today of SofaTube, a service that aims to take YouTube and Revver into the living room. While you can view Revver and YouTube directly on PCs and some game consoles, SofaTube features an interface that's optimized for viewing from far away, rather than two feet away on your desk.

That means massive fonts, huge menus and really simple navigation. There's also an option at the top right to switch all videos to full screen mode. What's more, it's well designed - the use of ajax means there are no pageloads, while the lightbox effect means you can focus on the video at hand. SofaTube is being promoted for use on home theater PCs, the PlayStation 3 and (once the Opera browser is released for the Wii tomorrow) the Nintendo Wii, too.

The service is part of the Red Kawa Marketplace, which already provides tools to bring Flickr, Google News and Google Maps into the living room, plus games like Snake and Frogger. It's a really useful idea that would be perfect if it wasn't for the oversized ads (if you're a Firefox user, Adblock will remove these).
