ShoutCentral.com, the simple social network that went up for sale on eBay at the start of January, has been sold. After 57 bids, the eBay user mattias_deutschland won with a bid of $13,800.

The site was custom built using PHP and AJAX on a MySQL backend, and they reported 1000 users. It also integrates with YouTube, Last.fm and del.icio.us, as mentioned in our original Shout Central review last year.

Whether the price is right is likely to be a matter of debate: custom building such a network is a lot of work, but social networks are also becoming commodities. One commenter on the original post joked that he could build something similar on Ning for free. I wouldn't have paid that price, but frankly I don't need a social network.
