We don't cover white label social networks regularly here at Mashable, but it's worth noting that Five Across, creator of NHL Connect and a number of other networks, has been acquired by Cisco. The acquisition was made by Cisco's new Media Solutions Group (CMSG) and details haven't been disclosed.

San Francisco-based Five Across was founded in 2003 - its platform is called the "Connect Community Builder". The obvious question is: why the heck would Cisco want to acquire that? There are no plans to build a Cisco social network, they say - instead, it's about "delivering information", and routers or set top boxes could eventually come packaged with social networking. I'm still not seeing the synergies here: anyone want to help me out?
