Freewebs, which began in 2001 as a way for anyone to create a website and evolved into more of a social network, has been doing some particularly cool social stuff in recent months: everything from promotional widgets (for the movie The Number 23, most recently) to an embeddable game widget to promote Reebok. A forum product is also in the pipeline.
Today they're announcing a partnership with Photobucket that allows users to put Photobucket's photos, slideshows and videos on their Freewebs blogs and sites from within the interface. They're using Photobucket's JWidget, which basically lets users upload files to Photobucket without leaving the site - they're also making use of Freeweb's soon-to-be released Remote Publishing API, which might gain them some traction in the developer community.
Freewebs is really under-rated as a social networking destination and it should at least get the occasional mention in between Piczo, MySpace, Friendster, Bebo, Facebook and the others we cover ad infinitum - we'll be keeping an eye on the service in future.
