Yet more funding announcements today: one for a mapping service and one for a ticketing provider.

First up, Portland, Oregan-based Platial has raised $2.4 million in a Series A round. KeyNote Ventures joined the round, and existing investors returned - Kleiner Perkins, Omidyar Network, Ram Shriram and Ron Conway. Platial is a Google Maps mashup that doesn't seem to differentiate itself too well. Yes, they have plenty of widgets (powered by Yahoo maps) and they're now reaching out to bands on MySpace Music, but I'm still not sold on it. That said, perhaps one of these widgets will suddenly take off.

Meanwhile, Chicago-based ticketing company TicketsNow, a marketplace for reselling event tickets, has raised a big round: $34 million. The round was led by Adams Street Partners, with DFJ Portage Venture Partners and New World Ventures also chipping in. It's a good market to be in: competitor StubHub was sold to recently eBay for $307 million.
