What took you so long, Widgetbox? The widget platform announced its 1.5 version on Sunday night, adding a "Get it Now!" button within the widget itself. Like Clearspring's "Grab It!" button, and similar features from the likes of KickApps, YourMinis and SpringWidgets, this lets you grab the widget code from within the Flash embed, rather than visiting a page on the Widgetbox site. This is particualrly useful on sites like MySpace, which make external linking a little trickier (you can still use a plan html link outside the embed, however).
This is another indicator that widget sites should probably be measured based on "widgetviews" rather than pageviews. Or perhaps we should be measuring the number of pages on which widgets are deployed, since widgetviews would be an extremely high and possibly misleading number. And of course these numbers only really have meaning once there's some way to monetize a widgetview - what will be the CPM of a widget?
