SnapShots - Less Annoying Version of Snap Preview Anywhere

In November 2006, the search engine Snap.com launched Snap Preview Anywhere, a service that previewed blog links when you hovered over them. Readers found them pretty annoying, and soon some modifications were made to limit the annoyance factor.

Now SPA is gone, and Snap is launching SnapShots, a really interesting idea that crosses widgets with links. Hover over a link to a YouTube video, for instance, and VideoShots will show the clip in a pop-up widget. Also works with Flickr photostreams, Amazon URLs, audio, stock quotes and more. You can add this to your blog by inserting a line of javascript.

SnapShots is much, much better than the original idea, and I actually think this one could work. Most the time you might as well just embed the widget in your blog itself, but there's certainly something viral about the SnapShots idea that could make it a winner.
