MySpace en Español, MySpace Latinoamérica

Look out Spanish social networks: MySpace will officially launch a version of the site for US-based Hispanics on Tuesday. MySpace en Español, found at latino.myspace.com, is currently just a translation of the existing site, but it'll soon include more Hispanic content like targeted music, TV shows and (no doubt) ads. There's also a Spanish version of MySpaceIM. More than 6 million existing MySpace US users have entered their ethnic origin as Latino and/or Hispanic.

Another new launch from MySpace: they're rolling out MySpace Latinoamérica at la.myspace.com. This is a pan-regional site in Spanish for Latin American users. Once again, they'll be developing custom content and partnerships for these users. MySpace Brazil and MySpace Mexico will also launch as separate communities: the Mexican site is currently in beta and already has a musical partnership with EMI Records. Both sites will be announced at Tuesday's Billboard Latin American Music Conference.

The big losers here will be the existing Spanish social networks: Vostu is the most recent one to get coverage, but there's a burgeoning market here than includes MiMun2, Quepasa, Elhood and many more. To our Hispanic readers: are these sites now screwed, or have they reached critical mass? And perhaps we should throw in the fact that Google's Orkut is now the de facto social network for Brazilians?
