Sportsvite has teamed up with the American Basketball Association to launch a contest to find the best amateur basketball player through its online community.
The contest, called "Play With the Pros," is for boys and girls, and is out to find the best player out there. Take a video of yourself playing your best game, and upload it to Sportsvite, which has recently received $2 million in funding. The grand prize is the chance to play a game with their local ABA team in one of 40 cities, and an all-expenses paid tryout, which could lead to a contract. This would be one of the first times a professional athlete gets signed directly off the Internet.
The judges will pick the finalists, and will come from players and coaches in the ABA as well as the NBA. The Sportsvite community will determine the winner, based on the video submissions. A few of the judges include Will Voigt, coach for Vermont Frost Heaves, Mike James from the Houston Rockets, and Mike Curtis, Strength and Condidtioning Coach for the Memphis Grizzlies.
