Kristen picked up on the buzz earlier today that MTV is launching a social network very soon. That site is actually Flux.com, and it was scheduled to launch tonight.
Developed by the folks at Tagworld, the social network Viacom acquired largely for the technology, Flux is a network that aims to tie together your accounts on all MTV sites with a single profile page. MTV owns a number of sites for major artists that can be linked this way.
We know much of this because I tested the UK version over a year ago, when reports of the full US launch were already flowing. However, the UK site I tested was a strange, Drupal-based network that was far from completion: it remains to be seen whether Flux.com can do any better (I heard they're using ASP.NET, which would figure). At the time, MTV claimed that the site was not a MySpace rival.
