$100 Laptop: Get Your Own!

On November 12, you'll be able to buy your own "$100" laptop... for $399. Why the price? Because you're actually buying two laptops: one for you, and one for a child in a developing country. The scheme, called G1G1 (give one get one) has been launched by the One Laptop Per Child organization and reflects the current price of $188 per machine. The hope is still to get the cost down to $100.

You don't get much for your $399 - 1GB of Flash memory, 3 USB 2.0 ports, 802.11b/g /s wireless LAN, a MMC/SD card slot, 256 MB DRAM and a dual mode 7.5" TFT LCD display. But you're hardly buying the features here: it's mainly about the gift. As of November 12, you'll be able to buy the laptops at xogiving.org, and the first 25,000 buyers will get them by the end of the year.
