Facebook Investigated for Safety Practices

Facebook is being investigated by the office of the New York State Attorney General, who accuses the site of failing to keep users safe from sexual predators. The Attorney General, Andrew Cuomo, has sent a complaint and subpoenaed the company for documents that he believes indicate Facebook is not adequately responding to user complaints.

According to Cuomo, his investigators posed as underage users on the site and were solicited by predators, indicating flaw’s in Facebook’s safety controls. The letter was sent directly to Facebook’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg, According to Reuters, Facebook plans to issue a statement concerning the matter.

Meanwhile, MySpace has also been the subject of numerous investigations regarding the presence of sexual predators on the service. Unfortunately, it seems to come with the territory of having tens of millions of young users on your web site.
