EchoStar Acquires Sling Media for $380M

EchoStar Communications Corporation, the parent company for DISH Network, has announced its agreement to acquire Sling Media, creator of the Sling suite, which lets you do things like control your television shows at any time, from their computers or mobile phones, or record and watch TV on your PC or Windows-based mobile phone. The acquisition is for $380 million.

With an early investment in EchoStar, it's clear the satellite television provider was interested in the technology of more mobile entertainment. Several initiatives for mobile devices were promoted by Dish network, and the relationship between EchoStar and Sling only grew as on-demand entertainment became a necessity for consumers. So it comes as no surprise that EchoStar has acquired Sling Media. Perhaps this will help the company pull ahead of Comcast by way of on-demand and mobile solutions for customers.
