Mixx, the new social news site we reviewed last month, will move to public beta tomorrow. The site, which combines the social news elements of Digg with personalization options based on your preferences, has signed a number of content partnerships to aid in the launch, including USA Today, Reuters, and the LA Times. Mixx also allows users to submit photos and video, as well as filter to see local content.

Mixx is one of the better designed entrants into the super crowded field of social news startups looking to take on Digg. In a sense though, it’s more aimed at challenging traditional start pages like My Yahoo or Netvibes by letting you decide what type of content you want to see. The partnerships will certainly help, but ultimately Mixx is still driven by social news, so success will depend on attracting a large base of users to submit and vote on content.
