Looks like AOL is still having some trouble on the home front. And the latest news from AOL is very grim. 20% of its workforce, which amounts to 2,000 people, will be laid-off starting tomorrow.

AOL says that the layoffs are necessary for efficient operations, which may be key as the company continues to readjust its focus from a subscription-based ISP portal to an ad-supported service. Even with the promise of "generous severance packages" (probably reserved only for higher-ups), this isn't really a good look for AOL.

Just over a year has passed since AOL began its transformation into an ad-supported model, and the end goal still seems a bit unclear as the company has hinted that it may soon sell it's dial-up service all together. Other companies that have recently laid off a significant amount of staff include Eons and Snocap.
