Vlingo, the speech-recognition technology for running apps on your mobile phones, is launching a developer program. The new voice program offers developers its tools and all its APIs for working with its service. Of course it would like to see some innovation come out of this offering as well. So far, initial program members include ROAM Data, Hollowire and 4DK Technologies.
We initially covered Vlingo here, when the service first launched. You may remember that it uses adaptive hierarchical language models for enabling speech-recognition on mobile hand sets. This outreach to developers is a smart move, considering the rapid pace at which mobile applications are being designed and implemented. There's a large push for more inclusive and social applications now that the iPhone has shifted the game, and mobile technology as a whole continues to improve.
