Confirmed: MySpace to Join Google's OpenSocial

Silicon Alley Insider is reporting that MySpace will join Google's OpenSocial, which launches today. The move would make a lot of sense considering MySpace and Google's $900 million advertising pact, and may be announced by the end of the day. It would certainly make the official announcement a whole lot jucier than the current list of not-quite-as-huge social networks that are participating.

This would be a timely move for MySpace, who badly needs their platform to be successful in order to keep pace with Facebook. Their platform has already been delayed beyond when it was originally rumored to be launching (at the Web 2.0 Summit); perhaps the reason was a technology partnership with Google? We'll have to wait and see.

Alley Insider has been correct with a number of MySpace rumors before, such as the MySpace-Zazzle deal that was formally announced this week, so my money is on this one coming to fruition.

UPDATE: Alley Insider now confirms this is a done deal.
