YouMail, the customized voicemail service that officially launched a few weeks back, has raised $4.5 million in Series A funding from VantagePoint Venture Partners. Craig Cooper, a venture partner at VantagePoint, will be joining the YouMail Board of Directors.
The funding will go towards product development and marketing initiatives, as well as the expansion of its management and development teams. Well, you may remember our initial review of YouMail, where we posted one of YouMail's "commercials" modeled after the famous PC vs. Mac ads, as so many others have done. Will we be seeing more of these ads?
When it comes to voicemail services, YouMail offers a bit of whimsy, a tool that all of us could take advantage of and have a bit of fun with. Whether or not the public at large will take to using this service is yet to be seen. With both web and mobile access, Youmail has most of its bases covered. What YouMail could work nicely with would be mobile-to-web tools like Dashwire.
