Bumpy Map Mashups with Google Terrain

I don't think a day goes by without there being Google Maps news. Today's story: Google has added a "terrain" view to your maps feature. It has actually replaced the "hybrid" view on your map views options, which sort of combined the map and satellite views to show the outlines of buildings, offering additional perspective on your map.

[img src="" caption="" credit="" alt=""]This is more than a change in names, however. The terrain view will show height variations on your maps, but this works best when you're looking at land that isn't flat. So my hometown of Chicago has a very plain "terrain" view while San Francisco is much more interesting. If you still long for the hybrid view, it's still there--just a little hidden. Click on the Satellite button and you'll see an option to show labels, which will be the equivalent of the "hybrid" view. Yesterday, we heard about the EPA's Google map mashup for showing air pollution across the US.
