Egnyte is a company that revealed its services at DEMO a year ago, and I initially covered it last year. Upon its launch, Egnyte was a collaborative tool that worked closely with a user's desktop to make file-sharing amongst team members an easier, more automated process.
Egnyte is now stepping things up, adding more features that also target businesses, but offer a more complete solution for those teams that need to access files from various locations, and for those company's that need to extend some of these file-sharing options to their clients. In essence, Egnyte is offering its service as a way to operate on a virtual basis, looking to eliminate the need for businesses to buy their own servers all together. The company is now launching a 3-in-1 solution that presents a hosting solution for online Shared Folders file storage, as well as web and desktop access to Shared Folders, and more admin tools to manage accounts and permissions.
[img src="" caption="" credit="" alt=""]After speaking with Egnyte CEO Vineet Jain about Egnyte's new upgrades, one thing that I quickly noticed was the redesign options that make the service easier for the average user to use. What Egnyte has done is modified its user interface in order to better mimic the layout of your My Computer or Finder on your PCs and Macs.
What this does is help bridge the gap for users that are already comfortable with the PC concept. The syncing options for Egnyte and your own desktop have also been made very easy. Any files you'd like to place in your Egnyte Shared Folder can be dragged from your desktop to the Egnyte desktop folder, which looks, feels and operates just like a piece of software that works seamlessly with your computer.
The way in which users can interact with their own clients has been considered as well. Free space and limited accounts are offered for businesses so that they can collaborate with their clients and share files in an efficient manner. Additional upgrades for this release are improved security and encryption, constant file backup, and more custom options for businesses.
