Twit.io is a social database, comprised entirely of tweets. The result is a classifieds-type system that lets you browse and search Twitter content in a more delineated manner. Think of it as Twitter meets craigslist. If you follow twit.io, then you'll have a better time submitting content to its social database, and you'll also be able to participate in all of the functions that it offers, such as search. However, you don't need to actually follow Twit.io in order to submit content directly from Twitter.

If you go to twit.io's website, you'll see that there are categories for you to check out, such as jobs, events, locations, etc. Click on any of these and you'll see all the relevant tweets that users have submitted. For example, if you'd like to post a party or a job opening at your company, you can post a direct @reply to twit.io and send in the information.
