Sports online seems to be the hot ticket these days, and the larger networks are hoping to ramp up web marketing and access in order to target their primary demographics in a few different ways. CBS is teaming up with Facebook in order to promote this year's NCAA Basketball Championship.

This will be done through a March Madness brackets application, where users can fill out brackets with their picks for each round of the tournament within an integrated, social setting. Users will also have links to all of CBS's sports sites, and will be able to watch live coverage on-demand. Such sports applications are rather popular on Facebook, so CBS is hoping to tap into this wiling and active crowd in order to increase user engagement with direct access between the application and its own separate sports offerings.

With the larger picture, however, this Facebook app is part of CBS's broader attempt at delivering sports with a cross-platform strategy that encompasses CBS Sports Mobile as well. While the Facebook app doesn't appear to be related to the mobile experience at all, it's still clear that CBS is looking to reach its users in every way possible.
