Outage Faceoff: Amazon S3 vs BlackBerry - Which Is Worse?

Amazon S3 went down this morning. Reports are that the outage began somewhere around 7:30AM EST, and successive recovery updates given by numerous corporate and small-business customers and a whole potpourri of end users are showing that things on the server side are slowly getting into gear.

This of course isn’t very good news to hear going into the final stretch of week. Amazon S3 is allegedly one of the most trustworthy of data hosting services. The fact that it has now proven susceptible to a significant crippling effect isn’t so assuring for the wide world of Internet startups, which now rely on the Bezos-led powerhouse to keep their bits moving all hours of the day.

The question we raise now, though, is, which would you consider worse for business: a temporary collapse of Amazon S3, or an extended BlackBerry shutdown [NYT]? Which would you rather go without: The "CrackBerry," the device that extends your business powers to push through those critical email correspondences and maintain lucrative client relations, or the platform by which your digital assets are blasted around the globe?
