They didn't cite the numbers of folks uploading in HD, and I can't help but imagine this might be, at least in part, announced in tandem with the recent Blu-Ray news for publicity's sake. Still, DailyMotion will be joining elite ranks of embedded video sites that offer HD embedded video. So far as I can remember, the only other major sites currently offering HD quality video are Vimeo and Hulu. YouTube has announced future plans for HD, but so far hasn't announced a release date for those features.
Will it matter, though? HD certainly may have helped Vimeo out with a slight traffic bump, but it certainly hasn't propelled it out in front of most of the other major video sharing sites. When we asked Mashable readers several months ago for their thoughts on HD video for embedded video sharing sites, most professed a profound apathy, with only one in three saying it would make the difference in which embedded sharing site would be their destination of choice.
