Strawpoll is the latest to turn the Twitter economy into a tool for gathering information on participants for the distinct purpose of holding a poll on Twitter. There are already a few sites out there that do the exact same thing, one of which is a service called TwittPoll.
During my coverage of TwittPoll I mentioned the interesting manner in which a poll on Twitter simplifies certain aspects of the polling process and makes them mobile at the same time, though such Twitter polls still require a concerted effort from participants and rely on their own popularity throughout the Twitter community. One difference I noticed on Strawpoll straight away was its aggregation of responses along with nearly real-time results of an ongoing poll. This is all viewable on Strawpoll's website, but is not directly accessible through Twitter.
