As if there weren't enough folks on my Twitter list creating a virtual torrent of information screaming past my screen at all time, I can now make my plants talk to me over Twitter as well. That's right, I said the plants. Like these tulips that my wife got from my sister on her birthday last week. Daniel Terdiman over at Webware made this fantastic discovery that the New York University's Interactive Telecommunications Program Botanicalls group put together.
Botanicall's Twitter hack answers the question: "How is your plant doing?" They posted their DIY project, which principal pieces of technology are a Blackberry and assorted bits of Arduino boards. The wires detect the moisture levels in the plant's soil, and when it drops to a pre-determined level, it will fire off a tweet and let you know what's going on with the soil moisture level.
