MyCrimeSpace is reporting that one Mr. Charles Rehmund of Florida, an alleged bank robber, was caught through his actions on MySpace. From the tapes and witness testimony, he was positively identified by four witnesses to the crime. Rather than turning first to their criminal databases, the investigator just turned to MySpace, looked up the fellow under suspicion of the crime, and messaged him, asking politely that he turn himself in.

Mr. Rehmund declined to turn himself in, but did accept the friend request, and presumably implied that he was the man they were looking for. From there, it was a simple matter for the investigators to find his whereabouts from the data on his profile. From the Orlando Sentinel:

As the detective was chatting with Rehmund online, he notified the Altamonte Springs Police Department, which arrived at the apartment and arrested Rehmund.

"It's believed that when they arrived at the apartment, he was actually still on the computer with the detective," Herrell said.

The man was intelligent enough to pull of a successful bank heist, but somehow couldn't stop himself from boasting to police about his exploits.
