Seesmic, it has been revealed, will be launching video commenting plug-ins for the Moveable Type and Typepad blog publishing platforms by the month's end, according to a video report by Andy Plesser at Beet.TV (see embed below). The tip came at the end of an interview with Seesmic evangelist Cathy Brooks at a poolside party in Los Angeles.

Video comments are the latest trend in the blogosphere, although the reception to them has been definitively lukewarm. Back in mid-March, we debuted video commenting by use of a blog plug-in from Viddler, which Pete utilized to point out some of the weaknesses in video commenting.

About a month later, Seesmic debuted it's solution for video commenting, which very closely tied into its main platform, best described as a video version of Twitter. This move sparked a discussion in the blogosphere on the effectiveness of the media for that type of communication, with only a few folks finding the new media superior to text-only comments.

It also seems to have inspired others in the commenting space to get with the video program, with Disqus unveiling video comments yesterday, as Adam Ostrow noted.

At least for tech-centric and journalistic blogs, video comments might be a miss, rather than a hit.  The demographic that time-shifted video communication has really taken off with has been the YouTube / LiveJournal type crowd. Seesmic isn't populated with hundreds of teeny-boppers, but the majority of what goes on there can be metaphored to the type of communication you see in video replies on YouTube.  The discussions don't tend to be geared toward information gathering, but as a form of entertainment.
