Gene Simmons Blames Radiohead For The Demise Of Civilization

OK, he didn't actually say that. But two of his recent statements put together sound funny when you think that this is Gene Simmons from KISS, the ultimate rock rebel - at least by appearance - we're talking about here. According to AOL, Simmons says that Radiohead has done the music industry a disfavor by choosing to let fans decide how much they want to pay for their record. As pointed out by Techdirt's Mike Masnick, it's hard to understand how what Radiohead has done can be bad for the industry since it turned out to be a good business move which made Radiohead a lot of cash.

It's not black and white anymore. We have musicians who aren't against file sharing, like Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails on one side, and we have musicians like Gene Simmons and Metallica who vehemently oppose it. We have those who embrace new business models, and those who stick with the old ones. It's going to be harder and harder for the record industry to convince people that sharing equals stealing if the musicians themselves aren't unified against it.

Simmons goes on: "The record industry is dead. It's six feet underground and unfortunately the fans have done this. They've decided to download and file share. There is no record industry around so we're going to wait until everybody settles down and becomes civilised. As soon as the record industry pops its head up we'll record new material."
