Facebook to Copy FriendFeed's "Like"? [Video]

Watch the video above...notice anything odd? What about the word "like" under Facebook feed items - does that look familiar?

FriendFeed, the aggregator of all your social networking streams, is often pitted against microblogging service Twitter. And yet, it's much closer to Facebook's "news feed" model...and about to get much closer if the above video is any indication.

While Facebook allows users to comment on items in news feeds, it has so far not allowed lower-effort sharing such as marking an item as a favorite. It's conjecture, but the inclusion of the word "like" in what appears to be a developer version of the Facebook site, first spotted by an eagle-eyed AllFacebook reader, could signal that Facebook intends to copy a feature wholesale from its smaller rival: the ability to "like" a favorite item.

Facebook is not beyond copying features from FriendFeed, of course: in mid 2008 we noted that Facebook had enabled commenting on news feed items, a direct clone of a FriendFeed feature.

Does it makes sense for Facebook to copy "Likes", considering that the company has a "Share" feature already? And if the implementation does proceed, will they at least cover their tracks by choosing a different word than "like"?
