According to the paper, “the last print edition of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer will be published Tuesday. The Hearst Corp. announced that the P-I will become the nation's largest daily newspaper to shift entirely online.” The paper has more than 100,000 daily print subscribers, and has been publicly searching for a buyer since early this year.

The news follows the shutdown of Denver’s Rocky Mountain News last month, though that paper decided to simply cease operations rather than try an online-only version. As we noted in our previous coverage, the Seattle P-I’s move to Web-only will be an experiment worth watching, and could pave the way for many other Web-only migrations in local news if successful.
