It's April Fools' Day, and Everyone Wants to Cheer You Up

Every year, IT, web and media companies around the web crack April Fools' jokes, but since we're in a global economic recession, it seems that everyone feels the need to make their users smile, at least for one day. There's simply too many jokes out there to mention them all, so here's our choice of the funniest ones.

5. Gmail Autopilot - GoogleGoogle reviews[img src="http://static1.blippr.com/images/inline-face_07.png?1237798206" caption="" credit="" alt="Google reviews"] lets pretty much all of its teams crack their independent jokes, which results in a lot of, well, mediocre jokes. The Gmail team has come with one of the better ones with the Gmail Autopilot. It's a new GmailGmail reviews[img src="http://static1.blippr.com/images/inline-face_07.png?1237798206" caption="" credit="" alt="Gmail reviews"] feature which completely rids you of your daily e-mail troubles; you don't have to read it or reply to it any more. You know what's funny? I'd actually use that.

4. The Internet Reboot - SitePoint announces that there will be an Internet reboot today at 11:59UTC. As they put it, "People forget that the Internet has been running continuously since the 1970s. This reboot will provide greater stability for years to come. We’re also hoping it will result in fewer viagra and scam messages." Yeah, right.

3. Wired claims: Twitter plans to make money - easy one; TwitterTwitter reviews[img src="http://static1.blippr.com/images/inline-face_07.png?1237798206" caption="" credit="" alt="Twitter reviews"] business plan jokes are always in fashion. I'll give you a hint; it's not software, it's hardware.

2. Yahoo Ideological Search - let's face it, you don't want to know the real truth, anyway. So, Yahoo has introduced a search that gives you results based on your political views. The catch: it really works (try "Obama")!

1. Reddigg - Reddit is now a DiggDigg reviews[img src="http://static1.blippr.com/images/inline-face_05.png?1237798206" caption="" credit="" alt="Digg reviews"] clone. Given the relationship between the communities of Reddit and Digg, this was probably the best joke they could come up with, and they've really outdone themselves with the implementation: it actually looks like Digg! Since Digg has the copyright on the word "Digg" and everything similar, I wonder if they'll send a C&D letter?
