This is, apparently, especially true in the UK town Broughton, whose residents blocked a Google contractor and his Street View car when he tried to take pictures of their homes. The police were called, and the car moved on, but the folks of Broughton aren't happy.

"I don't have a problem with Google wanting to promote villages. What I have a problem with is the invasion of privacy, taking pictures directly into the home," resident Paul Jacobs told the BBC.

Since it's not against the law to stand in the street and takes pictures of people's homes, I doubt this or any similar incident can really stop Google from doing what it's doing. But it's a question of scale. If I go out in the street and take a couple of photos, no one will care. But when a huge company systematically takes photos of all the homes in all the streets of some town, it feels different, and you can't blame people for not liking it.
