Now, an interesting new promotion that musicians should take note of: Travis Barker and DJ-AM are offering up a free download of their newest mixtape in exchange for a tweet.
The duo have launched a website that utilizes Twitter OAuth and prompts users to tweet a promotional message about the new mixtape. Once completed, users are then able to download the track free of charge.
As you can see in the pre-populated tweet, the musicians are including a special hashtag - #trvsdjam – the goal of which is obviously to make it the top trending topic on Twitter. Will it succeed? Considering the highly viral nature of the campaign and the combined 200,000+ followers that Travis Barker and DJ AM have on Twitter, my bet is on seeing #trvsdjam all over Twitter shortly.
