The Bingathon, which is already getting promoted within commercials on Hulu, is making its mark on June 8th at 8:00 PM EST (5:00 PST). The live show will star co-hosts Olivia Munn (co-host of Attack of the Show! on G4) and Jason Sudeikis (of Saturday Night Live) as they perform sketch comedy. We've got to ask: how the heck does this relate to Bing?
While other details are sparse, it seem that Munn and Sudeikis will perform crazy antics while talking up Microsoft's new "decision engine." The "live party" will celebrate Bing's launch and will actually have guests - as an example, Olivia has confirmed that Fred Willard, the actor and comedian known for roles on This is Spinal Tap and Everybody Loves Raymond, as well as other celebs, will appear on the show.
Ms. Munn has written a blog post about the Bingathon in which she announces the event, promotes Microsoft's new search engine, and then proceeds to call Bing a new web browser. Regardless of that oversight, Munn has already started heaping out the Bing-love in preparation for the event, and we can expect the same next Monday.
Sorry if we're a bit dumbfounded, but we're still trying to figure how having two well-known people in crazy sketch comedy skits helps Bing beat Google. Perhaps we just haven't learned enough about it, but does having a web-based infomercial help solve Bing's two biggest problems: a lack of user awareness and a rival with over 60 percent market share?
