AppleInsider says it has independent confirmation both on the date of the event - September 9th - and that this event will focus on the roll-out of new music devices featuring point-and-shoot digital cameras.

This has been a long-standing rumor, and would be the first time that Apple has integrated camera functionality into a non-iPhone portable.

As Ben Parr reported last week, the iPhone is now the most popular camera on Flickr. Because iPhone users can easily take photos and then instantly share them on Flickr, Facebook or Twitter, it makes sense that so many are choosing to do so.

Think about how many iPod an iPod touch devices are sold each year. If the majority of those devices also sport a camera and wifi connectivity, just imagine the impact that could have on online photo sharing.
