Earlier, we published a guide about how you can take advantage of Twitter Lists, but if you're looking for a relevant real-world example of the power of Lists look no further than the Twitter savvy National Hockey League (NHL).
Earlier this morning, the NHL had a brilliant idea to tap NHL fans on Twitter in order to crowdsource Twitter Lists of NHL fans by their favorite teams. They tweeted, "Hey guys--we want to create lists of #NHL fans by team! Please Tweet @NHL your favorite team or teams w/ the hashtag #myfavoriteNHLteam."
That tweet proved to be more successful in mobilizing fans than originally anticipated, with tweets flooding in from fans affiliating themselves with their favorite teams. The collection is currently being pulled together, and you can view the lists here.
The NHL has also unwittingly discovered one of the unfortunate limitations of Twitter Lists — the 20 list maximum per account. They've reached out to Twitter to see if they can adjust this limit, but, in the meantime, the additional 10 team lists can be found here.
