That figure included $32.5 million in domestic ticket numbers and the film was #1 at the local and worldwide box office. Although Sony was reporting high customer-satisfaction scores, we wanted to see what social media users thought about the film. Our friends at Crimson Hexagon did some Twitter sentiment analysis for tweets about the film.
The Analysis
Crimson Hexagon analyzed 15,000 tweets from between 10/28/2009 and 11/01/2009. This graph shows the breakdown:
The vast majority of tweets were either responding positively to the film or were about users who wanted to see the film. Eleven percent of tweets were looking for feedback from other users and a scant 3% didn't like the film.
Looking at the trend graph, you can see that the number of "want to see it" tweets declined after opening day, whereas "I loved it" tweets increased. In short, it looks like both Twitter and the box office pegged "This Is It" as a big winner this weekend.
