TED Talks: Coming to a TV Near You

The seminal series of TEDtalks currently available online (and addictively so) are about to reach a whole new audience thanks to the new TED Open TV Project. The new initiative will allow television broadcasters around the world to air the talks for free as well as create programming around them.

Announced at the Web 2.0 conference, the Open TV Project already has dozens of broadcasters signed up to air the talks -- reaching a collective audience that is already in the hundreds of millions. One of the primary goals behind the project is to extend the reach of TED's idea-spreading mission into the developing world, where broadband Internet still gives online video less reach than traditional broadcast television.

Interested broadcasters can find out more about how to get involved with the program and are encouraged to generate their own programming surrounding the talks including commentary, debate, and other custom content relevant to local and regional communities.
