Most notable (and controversial with Madden purists) is the customizable GameFlow system, which optionally calls your plays for you when you don't have more than an hour to dedicate to a single game. EA claims that in previous versions of Madden, players would spend most of their playtime off the field, flipping through potential plays and making other menu selections.
Madden newbies and players with a lot on their plates will appreciate the brevity and simplicity of GameFlow, but hardcore purists will want to keep calling their own plays — and they can still do so if they wish.
The 2011 edition of Madden also adds Online Team Play (OTP). A group of three players can challenge another team of three on the field, each player controlling a different athlete during the action. Said action is more realistic now thanks to what EA calls "the locomotion animation system."
Presently the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game each have an 85 rating on Metacritic. You can buy the console versions — which range from $39.99 to $59.99 depending on platform — at retail, or the iPhone [iTunes link] and iPad [iTunes link] versions from the Apple App Store for $7.99 and $12.99, respectively.
