Nokia Communications Manager Tapani Kaskinen confirmed the news, adding that a replacement for Jaaksi has already been found and that his resignation will not affect MeeGo's development schedule.

Be that as it may, this is the third high-profile departure at Nokia in recent months. In September, CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo was replaced by Stephen Elop. A couple of days later -- and one day before the Nokia World event -- Anssi Vanjoki, the head of mobile solutions, resigned.

Jaaksi's departure may be particularly troublesome for Nokia, as the company recently started shifting focus from the Symbian platform to MeeGo (a merger of two Linux-based operating systems: Nokia’s Maemo and Intel’s Moblin) for its smartphones. It now seems more and more unlikely we'll see a MeeGo-based device before the end of 2010.
